Aguilas (Approx 60 miles from villa)
Aquilas is a thriving Spanish sea side town, yet to be discovered by the UK tourist market. Aguilas is in the Southwest area of Murcia where the climate is very dry. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and nightlife. Although Aguilas has a Blue Flag Beach, it is well worth visiting the secluded beaches in the area.
Bullas (Approx 28 miles from villa)
Bullas is in the heart of the North West Region of Murcia, famous for its wine. It has a wine museum and has some lovely buildings of different architecture and colours surrounding its central square
Calasparra (Approx 20 miles from villa)
Calasparra is a pleasant little town which is known through out Spain for it rice. It is set in beautiful rolling countryside, with the Segura river meandering past, filling the paddy fields on its way. It has a lively community and some wonderful fiestas
Caravaca de la Cruz (Approx 7 miles from villa)
Caravaca de la Cruz is a beautiful medieval (12th and 13th century) town, with many historic, traditional properties along side the narrow roads that lead up to the Sanctuary Vera Cruz. The town has been declared by the Vatican as one of the worlds’s five Holy Cities, along with Rome and Jerusalem and is a fascinating place to visit. Cartagena (Approx 70 miles from villa)
Cartagena is a famous naval port which in recent years has been turned sympathetically into one of the regions major tourist attraction. Its history dates back to pre Roman times and is renowned for being a resting place for Hannibal and his Elephants on his journey to conquer Rome. This is now celebrated in a fantastic Roman Fiesta held in September – not to missed. The waterfront has been completely rebuilt with several restaurants and bars. During September there is a major Fiesta where the residents dress as Romans and Carthaginians and party well into the early hours.
Cehegin (Approx 10 miles from villa)
As with several of its neighbours, Cehegín is a medieval town comprising narrow streets and sand coloured buildings. From the main road it looks like a picture postcard with its two churches on the top of the two peaks and the array of different shapes and colours of the tiles roofs. At night the town looks spectacular with the effects of the floodlit monuments and churches.
Lorca (Approx 32 miles from villa)
Lorca is the third City in the Region of Murcia, it is a medieval town built in the shadow of the Islamic fortress, it has many beautiful building of architectural interest as well as many fabulous shops. The Fiesta at Easter (Santa Semana) is one of the most impressive in Murcia, which legions of Roman soldiers and Chariots with white horses racing through the narrow streets. Calblanque regional park consists of long sand beaches and deep blue sea. Excellent for waling, cycling or horse-riding.
Mula (Approx 27 miles from villa)
Mula is found to the west of the city of Murcia on the river Mula, and is another hillside town topped with a castle. A traditional sleepy Spanish town where the pace of live is slower, where you can find all the amenities, but you sometimes have to look a bit harder for them
Murcia City (Approx 52 miles from villa)
Travelling into Murcia city you would be forgiven for thinking it was a bit ‘uninteresting’, however once you have parked and are on foot, there are many ‘treasures’ to discover. As well as the obvious tourist attractions of the Cathedral and the main high street shops, if you venture off the grand via, you will find a wealth of churches, squares and cafes. Also the Theatre Romeo , the Casino, many museums and excellent restaurants, makes this a wonderful place to visit.
Puerto Mazarron (Approx 60 miles from villa)
Port of Mazzaron this seaside town is the centre of much of tourism on the south coast and Mediterranean, with its long sandy beaches and fabulous fish restaurants, it is a favourite with holiday makers. The long promenade takes you to the marina a great place to watch the world go by. See the Murcia Tourist Information website
